Capsule Geology

The Nook occurrence is located immediately north of Taspai Creek, on Nook Hill and is 43.6 kilometres east of Prince George.

The Nook showing is underlain by volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Upper Mississippian Slide Mountain Group. The units strike north to northwest and dip moderately to steeply west. In one drill hole a massive sulphide zone about one metre wide was intersected at the contact between black graphitic argillite and a quartz feldspar porphyritic dacite. Chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite were identi- fied. Other holes did not intersect economic mineralization. Most holes encountered arkose, siltstone, argillite and limestone over- lying quartz feldspar porphyry dacite.

Quartz feldspar porphyry dacite exhibits silicification and chloritization. Malachite staining occurs on outcrops. In 1969, a grab sample assayed 0.08 per cent copper, 0.25 per cent zinc, 0.22 per cent lead and 0.001 per cent molybdenum with trace gold and silver (Property File - Report to Minister of Mines and Petroleum Resources, 1974).

Between 1965 and 1985, various companies found anomalous copper and zinc in stream sediments from creeks draining Nook Hill. These were followed up by grid surveys, geochemical soil surveys, ground and airborne geophysical surveys and a small amount of diamond drilling. The best drill intersections are reported to be 3.58 per cent copper and 0.29 per cent zinc across 0.3 metres, and 0.86 per cent copper and 0.1 per cent zinc across 1.0 metres (Property File Rimfire Olson, R.A., 1992).

During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Kerr Addison Mines performed regional geochemical sampling and prospecting in the area of the Nook showing under its Massive Sulphides project. This work identified a number of anomalous areas between Prince George and Barkerville, including on Tsus Creek, some of the creeks flowing into Stoney, Pitoney, Narrow and Spectable lakes. The Vama claims were subsequently staked and a geophysical survey was completed on an anomaly found near Vama Vama Creek.

In 1982, an airborne electromagnetic survey was performed on the Taspai Creek area by Wollex Exploration.
